Ammeters
VDO ammeters show whether the battery is charging or discharging and how much current is flowing. The range covers Cockpit International ammeters in 60 A and 100 A and SingleViu ammeters in 60 A, 100 A and 150 A, all 52 mm and rated for 12 V and 24 V, together with ViewLine ammeter shunts in 30 A, 60 A and 100 A at 60 mV.
Pick a range above the maximum output of the alternator or the largest load on the circuit. A shunt lets the gauge read a high current through thin signal wires, which keeps heavy cable away from the dashboard; the shunt is fitted in the main battery or charging cable and the gauge reads the small voltage across it. Check the wiring diagram for the gauge before choosing, and size the cable for the full current.
